ForwardSMS

ForwardSMS for Windows Mobile

Tired of always having to switch between your
business and personal mobile phones?

ForwardSMS for Windows Mobile is the answer!

So you've forwarded your calls from your personal phone to your business phone, but how do you forward your text messages?

Mobile networks (carriers) often have a voice calls divert feature that allows you to divert your voice calls from one mobile to another, but they don't offer the ability to divert your text messages in the same way.

ForwardSMS allows you to forward messages automatically from your Windows Mobile Phone to any other phone on any other network.

Furthermore you can reply via your Windows Mobile so that recipients see the message as coming from the same number that they sent their message to in the first place.

How does it work?

You specify the mobile number to which you want to forward all of your incoming text messages. We call this number the "Destination Mobile". When a message is received on your phone the software automatically forwards the sender's number, their name (if it matches a contact on your phone), and the message text to the Destination Mobile:

  Incoming Message Tab

In this example, all incoming messages are being forwarded to mobile number +44 7770 123456. This number is the "Destination Mobile".

The software shows that the last incoming message was received from David (a number stored in this phone's contact list) and it also shows the text of David's message.

What about outgoing messages?

But of course that's not all! You can also send replies and other outgoing messages via your Windows Mobile phone so that these messages appear to your recipients to have come from that phone. Why is this useful? Well for one thing it allows you to just press "Reply" on the phone that you're reading the message on, and it also means that you don't have to tell all of your friends and contacts about your other mobile number so that they might recognise it if you sent them a message from that phone.

  Outgoing Messages Tab

In this example, the software is also set up to receive messages from the Destination Mobile. Any message from that number will automatically be sent out to the last number from which a message was received. So on the Destination Mobile you can simply "reply" to David's message about the BBQ saying "Yes, I'd love to come!", and David will get the message from your Windows Mobile. Of course you can over-ride this feature by simply prefixing your outgoing message with a dot ('.') and the actual number to which you want to send the message.

Additionally, the software will send a confirmation message back to the Destination Mobile so that you know that the message has been forwarded-on successfully.

This person also has a list of "Quick Forwards" set up (this feature is available in the Professional Edition). This means that they can send a message to Sarah by simply prefixing their message with ".sarah", and they don't have to remember Sarah's number.

What else can it do?

ForwardSMS also has a number of useful options which allow you to start the application automatically when you turn on your phone, and to comprehensively log both sent & received messages. It also has a detailed "debugging" feature, so if it ever crashes then you simply need to send us a copy of the log file and we will be able to see why.

  Options Tab

In this example, the software is set to start with Windows Mobile (ie whenever you turn on your phone).

The "Debug Level" offers three options:

- log nothing
- log all sent and received messages
- log everything (helpful for troubleshooting purposes)

You can see the size of the log file here, you can view it, and you can also clear it in order to save space or to delete the record of sent and received messages.
